Pokémon UNITE will permanently end its online service on Tuesday, 23 March 2027 at 00:00 UTC, The Pokémon Company has confirmed. The shutdown affects the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions, bringing an end to the free-to-play five-versus-five team battler that launched on Switch in July 2021.
The confirmation appeared on the official UK Pokémon UNITE website and through Pokémon Support on 27 October 2026. After the deadline, players will not be able to log in or participate in battles.
What happens to purchases and memberships?
Sales of the game’s premium Aeos gems stopped on 27 October 2026 at 05:00 UTC. New UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals were also suspended at that time. Existing club members can continue using their benefits until their current membership period ends.
Players can spend any Aeos gems they already own until service ends. Pokémon explicitly warns that unused gems will no longer be usable after the March closure, so players should plan around that deadline. The company has not presented this as a general promise of refunds for unused balances.
One last event and a library of memories
An update scheduled for 12 November 2026 will add a farewell event and a library feature allowing players to look back at certain records and owned in-game content. Pokémon also plans a Unite Coin Exchange and related rewards during the remaining months.
The library has an important condition: players must complete the required data download before 23 March 2027 at 00:00 UTC if they want to continue using it after the online game shuts down. Pokémon cautions that library data generally cannot be transferred when changing devices and that post-closure support will not be available. This is a preserved viewing experience, not an offline continuation of matches.
Competitive play has a final date too
The separately organised Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competition remains scheduled. Online qualifiers begin on 5 December 2026, with the final event planned for 20–21 March 2027, just before the game closes.
A final shop sale began on 27 October, with advertised discounts of up to 80% on selected items. Players should still consider the limited remaining lifespan of the game before using any currency they already hold.
What players should do next
Anyone who still plays Pokémon UNITE should check the official end-of-service notice, review any unused Aeos gems and make sure the November library update is downloaded before the March cutoff if preserving records matters to them.
The announcement closes a significant chapter for a Pokémon spin-off that offered a different form of team strategy on console and mobile. Pokémon has not given a specific reason for the decision in the end-of-service notice, so any claim about why the game is shutting down would be speculation.
