This policy applies to review copies, preview builds, hardware loans and other access provided for editorial consideration.
Review copies and independence
Developers, publishers and PR agencies may offer codes or review samples. Receiving a product never guarantees that it will be reviewed, how quickly it will be covered, or that its verdict will be positive. Our editorial conclusions are our own. We do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review, an agreed score or undisclosed promotional coverage.
Disclosure
We will clearly state when a game code, review copy, hardware sample or other material access has been supplied at no charge. Sponsored or advertising content, where accepted, is separately identified and cannot be presented as independent reviewing. Our disclosures will reflect applicable UK advertising and consumer-protection requirements.
How we review
- Reviews reflect hands-on experience with the relevant game or product, not merely a press release or marketing video.
- Game reviews should disclose the platform tested and relevant performance or accessibility observations when appropriate.
- Hardware reviews should explain the test environment, usability, limitations and value.
- Where we use a score, it is on a 1–100 scale, supported by an explanation of the verdict. Scores are not negotiated with suppliers.
- We may publish unscored impressions, previews, news and features. These should not be confused with a completed review.
Embargoes and conditions
We respect clearly agreed, reasonable embargoes and protect confidential preview information. Access restrictions are considered before acceptance. We do not agree to publisher approval of independent verdicts, mandatory praise, or terms that prevent truthful reporting.
Keys, samples and fulfilment
Review keys are for editorial use only. They are not sold, traded or used as giveaway prizes unless the rights holder explicitly authorises that use. We request only the number of copies genuinely required for evaluation. A request does not mean a review is guaranteed.
Errors, updates and corrections
We correct material factual errors and may update reviews when meaningful patches or product changes affect the experience. Any substantial changes will be made clear. For corrections, consult our Editorial Standards.
