Sony’s Prism Collection Brings Transparent DualSense Controllers Back: UK Prices and Pre-Order Dates

Official Sony image showing Prism Collection in Graphite Gray, Flare Orange and Emerald Green with matching PS5 console covers

Sony is bringing see-through hardware back to PlayStation. The newly announced Prism Collection gives PS5 players three translucent DualSense designs, alongside matching console covers, in Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Unlike a new controller generation, this is an aesthetic refresh: the appeal is in the shell, the details visible beneath it and the return of a distinctly late-1990s design idea.

The collection was announced on 28 October 2026. UK pre-orders open at 10am on 10 November 2026, while availability begins from 4 February 2027. Sony’s UK recommended prices are £74.99 for each DualSense controller and £64.99 for the matching PS5 console covers. These are announced prices and dates, not evidence of live stock at individual retailers.

Transparent controllers have a history, and Sony knows it

For players who grew up with translucent gamepads, handhelds and home electronics, the nostalgia is immediate. What makes Prism interesting is that Sony has resisted making the controllers look like disassembled gadgets. Instead, the transparent portions are combined with glossy surfaces and a more restrained central finish. That contrast gives a familiar DualSense silhouette a different identity without changing its basic shape.

In Sony’s own explanation of the design process, Colour, Material and Finish team member Leo Cardoso connects the range directly with the return of late-1990s see-through designs. Fellow designer Satoshi Aoyagi explains that the clear high-gloss finish continues across the controller’s rear while a metallic middle section unifies the appearance. These are design decisions, not claims of better performance.

Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray

Flare Orange is the most dramatic option, with light passing through bright red-orange transparent sections that can take on a warmer, slightly rosy effect where layers overlap. Emerald Green is a cooler and deeper design, while Graphite Gray offers the most understated interpretation, leaving more of the internal details visible without an especially bright colour dominating the desk or living room.

What is new, and what is not?

The important distinction is that Sony is introducing new finishes for DualSense wireless controllers, not advertising upgraded sticks, longer battery life, improved triggers or a different internal controller specification. Buyers should therefore treat Prism as a visual choice unless Sony separately confirms hardware changes. We have not handled these units, so we cannot comment on how the transparent finish feels in use, how it wears, or whether fingerprints will be unusually visible.

The console covers are also colour-matched accessories rather than new consoles. Before ordering covers, buyers should check the exact model compatibility shown at the point of sale. Sony has not presented the Prism range as a universal shell that fits every PS5 hardware revision.

UK pricing and when to order

At £74.99, these controllers sit firmly in premium-colour territory. A complete matching visual refresh with controller and covers has a combined recommended price of £139.98, before any retailer discounts. Whether that’s worthwhile is a personal call, especially if your current DualSense already works perfectly well.

For UK buyers, Sony says pre-orders will open on 10 November 2026 at 10am local time through PlayStation and participating retailers. Launch is scheduled from 4 February 2027; availability may differ by region, and console covers may be more limited than controllers.

The Coloured Static Press view

There is something pleasing about a hardware announcement that doesn’t pretend a colour change is a technical revolution. Prism is about design and personality. Orange will grab the attention, green has a distinctly retro character, and gray looks built for people who want a quieter setup. The lack of advertised performance changes matters, but so does the simple pleasure of owning hardware that looks different.
