White Cloud: The Oblivion Surveyor Wants You to Study Enemies Before You Strike

A forgotten labyrinth, an unfinished map and a battle system that asks you to study your enemy before striking. White Cloud: The Oblivion Surveyor is a first-person dungeon-crawling RPG from South Korean solo developer Seunghoon Choi, also known as ugiomin31-ops.

A free browser demo is available now, offering the prologue, a village hub and the first labyrinth floor. This is an indie discovery feature based on developer-supplied material, not a hands-on review or scored verdict.

A labyrinth the world has forgotten

The central idea is exploration through a first-person, grid-based maze. The demo begins in a village known as Lamp Row, then moves into the Ancient Forest, the first floor of the labyrinth. Players navigate the corridors and gradually fill in a survey map as they go.

It is an appealing foundation for anyone who enjoys methodical dungeon crawlers, where the route through a place is part of the challenge rather than merely a road between fights. The full game’s release date has not yet been announced.

Survey before you strike

The most distinctive part of the pitch is a combat mechanic called Survey. In the turn-based party battles, investigating an enemy reveals its vulnerabilities, allowing players to plan their actions around what they discover.

In principle, this makes information a resource in battle. Instead of spending every turn attacking immediately, the player must decide when learning about an opponent is worth the time it costs. The developer’s screenshots also show a turn-order display and the first-floor boss, the Warden of the Forgotten Forest.

The developer’s approach to production

Choi has disclosed the use of generative AI tools for the game’s art, 3D models, audio and video. He says the music, ambient loops and most sound effects were generated locally with Stability AI’s Stable Audio 3 Medium. Other effects use Kenney’s CC0 sound libraries or were synthesised in code.

The developer has supplied four current, original gameplay captures and has explicitly permitted their use for editorial and social coverage. This disclosure concerns the materials inside the game; the screenshots above are genuine captures of the playable demo, not separately created promotional illustrations.
