How we review
We value hands-on play, clear explanations, build and component quality, accessibility, replay value, value for money and the people behind each release. Our coverage is written for readers first. Reviews reflect our independent experience, and receiving a review copy never guarantees a favourable verdict or a particular score.
Our tabletop review score guide
Tabletop and board-game reviews have their own dedicated scoring framework, separate from our PC, console and gaming hardware review scale. The ranges and verdicts below apply to tabletop games, miniatures and hobby products, and reflect their particular strengths and limitations. A score never replaces the detailed written verdict.
| Score | Verdict | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 95–100 | Masterpiece | A rare, genre-defining tabletop or hobby experience. |
| 90–94 | Outstanding | Essential within its category and outstanding in execution. |
| 85–89 | Exceptional | A genuine must-play or must-own recommendation. |
| 80–84 | Excellent | Strongly recommended, with minor reservations at most. |
| 70–79 | Very good | Enjoyable or well made, though shortcomings hold it back. |
| 60–69 | Good ideas | Meaningful strengths alongside notable limitations. |
| 1–59 | Mixed to poor | Significant issues; the written verdict explains where it falls short. |
For tabletop games we consider gameplay, rules clarity, components, accessibility, replay value and value for money. For miniature and hobby products, we consider material quality, ease of use, finish and practical performance where relevant. Not every criterion applies to every product. See our Review Policy for editorial independence and disclosure commitments.
For publishers, studios and hobby brands
We welcome enquiries about physical review copies, demo sets, press kits, approved product photography, creator interviews and tabletop-related review equipment. We’re particularly interested in independent tabletop publishers, D&D accessories, Warhammer-compatible hobby tools and UK-distributed products. We can discuss reasonable review windows, shipping and whether a product is gifted or on loan before accepting it.
