FIRST SIGNAL / IN-DEVELOPMENT DISCOVERY / BRAZILIAN INDIE
In many action games, a hostile creature is a problem to be solved with a weapon. In V.E.T.O.R — A Ruptura, it may also be a conversation. Brazilian independent developer Jonie Rangel is building a 2D action platformer with RPG systems that allow players to speak to NPCs and enemies during encounters, while a companion system called VETOR helps identify weaknesses.

When an enemy can listen
The developer’s most intriguing idea is an enemy-tolerance system. According to Rangel, enemies can react to the player’s behaviour and dialogue, with tolerance influencing aggression. One submitted gameplay sequence shows an encounter with Turiam in which a conversation runs alongside the fight. Another involves a giant who must be persuaded to allow passage. It suggests a design that treats conversation as part of an encounter’s mechanics, rather than something that only happens before combat starts.
VETOR is intended to help players identify vulnerabilities, adding another tactical layer to the choice between talking, fighting and changing approach. The screenshots show work-in-progress interfaces and on-screen development controls; these should not be mistaken for a finished user interface.

A sizeable project, but not yet a public release
Rangel estimates development is approximately 80% complete. The developer says the current build includes dialogue during encounters, weakness guidance and tolerance-driven aggression. Voice dubbing is also said to be functioning in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Dutch. These are developer statements, not features independently verified by Coloured Static Press.
The next milestone is a playable demo intended for testing and feedback. There is no public demo and no announced release date. The project is in development for Windows PC. The older gameplay videos supplied by the developer should not be interpreted as demonstrating all seven language tracks.

Why this deserves a closer look
The possibility of negotiating with an enemy while still under threat is an appealing departure from the usual separation between dialogue and combat. The challenge will be making those systems readable and consequential: if tolerance changes aggression, players need to understand the trade-offs without feeling that every conversation is a disguised stat check.
You can follow development through the official VETOR website or the developer’s itch.io project page. The studio has also shared Turiam gameplay and a giant encounter. This is a First Signal development discovery, not a Switchboard full-release listing.
