HARDWARE NEWS / PLAYSTATION AUDIO / MANUFACTURER ANNOUNCEMENT
PlayStation is taking its audio line-up beyond headsets. Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that its Pulse Elevate wireless speakers launch on 12 November 2026, with a UK recommended retail price of £199.99. The pair is designed for desktop gaming, but the more interesting question is whether its wireless connections and portable design justify the premium over conventional PC speakers.

Built for a desk, but not tied to one
According to the official PlayStation Blog announcement, updated 18 August 2026, Pulse Elevate uses planar magnetic drivers and built-in woofers. Sony positions the speakers for PS5, PC and Mac desktop setups, with additional connectivity for PlayStation Portal and compatible mobile devices. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent sound-quality findings.
The speakers use PlayStation Link for low-latency wireless audio on compatible hardware. A USB-C PlayStation Link adapter is included. Bluetooth connectivity can operate alongside a PlayStation Link connection, allowing, for example, game audio from one source and music or a call from another. That dual-source flexibility may be more useful in everyday play than headline audio terminology alone.
A microphone, batteries and charging docks
Sony includes a microphone in the right speaker with AI-enhanced noise rejection, potentially allowing voice chat without a headset. The company also describes built-in rechargeable batteries and supplied charging docks, so the speakers can be moved away from a fixed desk. Sony has not supplied a single verified battery-life figure in the cited announcement, so we will not invent one.
Controls for volume and microphone mute are part of the design, with additional equaliser options on supported systems. The official announcement also notes that some PC controls will be available after launch. Buyers should check the exact functions supported on their chosen platform rather than assume every PS5 setting transfers to PC or mobile.
UK availability and the £199.99 question
Both Midnight Black and White are listed for the UK. Sony says the black version will be available through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers, while the white version has a more restricted channel and regional availability. Pre-orders opened on 1 September 2026, with local stock subject to change. The official UK RRP is £199.99; that is not a claim that every retailer has inventory today.
For a player already using a PlayStation Link headset or earbuds, Pulse Elevate could offer a different way to hear games without wearing anything. For a conventional desktop PC setup, however, £199.99 puts substantial pressure on sound quality, latency, voice pickup and connection reliability. Those questions require a genuine hands-on test. We have not received, used or reviewed Pulse Elevate, and no verdict or score is being offered here.
