A quiet night looking after a pet shop sounds straightforward, until the instructions include one very specific warning: don’t turn off the lights. Indie developer npckc’s unsettling point-and-click adventure a pet shop after dark is heading to consoles on 12 November 2026, with new material for returning players.
From a computer desktop to a console controller
Publisher Viridian Software says the console versions are planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, with Switch 2 also named in its announcement. The official Nintendo listing currently describes a Switch edition with Switch 2 compatibility, so that should not be mistaken for independently confirmed native Switch 2-specific enhancements.
The original game makes its fictional computer interface part of the puzzle. According to the developer’s announcement, that interaction has been adapted into a virtual desktop for console play. There are also additional diary entries and lore to discover, rather than simply a change of platform.
What actually happens after dark?
Players take a job tending strange plants, feeding unseen animals and spending the night inside a small shop. The apparently mundane checklist becomes the foundation for an unusual horror story, with the developer deliberately playing with expectations about how a game should behave. The official description even warns that some apparent crashes are intentional.
The interesting part of this announcement is not simply that another indie game is coming to consoles. Reworking a desktop-centred puzzle adventure for a controller is a genuine design challenge. Whether its peculiar surprises translate as effectively will be something players can judge at launch. We have not played the console versions.
Release date and availability
The publisher has announced 12 November 2026 for the console launch and a US price of $9.99. A confirmed UK price has not been established, so we are not converting that figure into a speculative sterling price. The official Nintendo listing confirms the date for its US Switch edition; the publisher also links to Xbox and PlayStation product pages.
