FIRST SIGNAL / INDIE DISCOVERY / PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR
In Greek mythology, the River Lethe washes memory away. For the dead, forgetting is part of crossing into another world. For the investigator at the centre of Below Lethe, those lost memories are evidence.
South Korean two-person studio Meisomi is building a hand-drawn psychological horror adventure in which you play Dikaion, a prosecutor in the Underworld. Your task is to prove the guilt of the dead, but the process is more involved than pointing at a suspicious face and declaring the case closed. You must explore the memories they’ve left behind, reconstruct what happened and decide how to present the case.
Evidence is only the beginning
The game’s premise moves between two familiar pleasures: the quiet work of investigation and the public pressure of a courtroom. Dikaion searches through the past for clues, then lays out a case before three judges. That structure creates an intriguing problem. Gathering evidence is not necessarily the same as understanding what someone deserves.
Meisomi says that, as the truth emerges, apparent certainty can give way to a moral dilemma. That’s the hook that makes Below Lethe worth watching: it is interested in the distance between reconstructing events and deciding what justice should look like.
A hand-drawn descent
The developer describes Below Lethe as a hand-drawn adventure inspired by Greek mythology. Rather than treating the Underworld simply as a location for monsters, its central conceit builds a mystery around memory itself: what remains of a person’s actions when their recollection has been washed away?
We haven’t completed a hands-on assessment, so questions about the puzzles, dialogue choices and how persuasive the eventual courtroom sequences feel remain open. But the combination of exploration and judgement offers an appealing departure from more conventional psychological horror setups.
Release and demo
A public demo is currently available through Below Lethe on Steam for Windows PC. In correspondence with Coloured Static Press, Meisomi listed 19 January 2027 as its intended full release date. Steam’s public listing may show a less specific date, so treat that target as provisional until it is confirmed on the store.
