DUNK Announced: First-Person Basketball With Physics, Teamwork and Moon Courts

Official DUNK first-person basketball announcement artwork supplied in Katapult Games' press kit

Irish indie studio Katapult Games has announced DUNK, a first-person basketball game built around physics-based passing, blocks, tackles and shots. Rather than watching the court from a conventional sports-game camera, players will need to read the play from inside the action.

The studio’s 28 October announcement, distributed by Secret Sauce PR, targets a 2027 PC release via Steam. Its official press kit still lists the release date as to be announced, so there is no confirmed day or month. DUNK is in development and is not a fully released game.

Basketball from the player’s perspective

Matches support one to six players, including one-on-one games and teams of up to three. The idea is to make passing lanes, timing and positioning matter without losing the chaotic appeal of playing with friends. The studio promises proximity voice chat, private lobbies, unlockable character looks and solo practice.

The courts are more than different backdrops. Katapult describes a schoolyard arena, a jungle court where hanging vines can affect play, and a moon setting where low gravity changes the rhythm of a match. Those differences could give the physics-led concept a distinct identity, although we have not tested the controls or the competitive balance.

What happens next?

DUNK’s official press kit offers gameplay screenshots and announcement media, while its developer website points players towards the Steam playtest sign-up. A public full-game release and pricing have not been confirmed. We’ll be watching whether its first-person viewpoint makes teamwork genuinely satisfying once players can get their hands on it.
