Kazu the Cassowary Revealed in CGI Teaser for Australian-Inspired Platform Adventure

Kazu the Cassowary official CGI teaser still from Kodybod Studios (not gameplay)

A cassowary might not be the first animal that comes to mind when choosing a platform-game hero, which is part of what makes Kazu the Cassowary such an interesting prospect. Kodybod Studios has introduced its Australian-inspired 3D adventure with a short public teaser, giving us an early look at the character and the world the team hopes to build.

The premise is straightforward: Kazu sets off to rescue his parents. The studio says the project is being developed in Unity, with PC via Steam the initial planned platform.

A reveal, not a gameplay demonstration

There is one distinction worth making immediately. The approximately 15-second announcement teaser is CGI promotional footage, not captured gameplay. Kodybod Studios made that clear in its submission, and it matters. A cinematic reveal can establish a personality or tone, but it cannot yet tell us how Kazu moves, how levels are constructed or what the finished game will actually feel like to play.

That doesn’t make the reveal uninteresting. An Australian setting and an unconventional animal protagonist provide a promising identity. The next test for the project will be translating that identity into a platformer with enjoyable movement, memorable environments and a reason to keep exploring.

Watch the first teaser

The official footage is available below. It is a CGI announcement teaser, not a demonstration of Kazu’s controls, level design or engine-rendered gameplay. That distinction is especially important with early indie projects, where even a polished reveal may represent a direction rather than the finished experience.

A memorable protagonist can help a young project stand out, and an Australian cassowary is hardly the standard mascot. But there are things the studio will still need to show: how Kazu moves through 3D spaces, what challenges shape the levels, and how its setting becomes more than a backdrop. Those unanswered questions are not criticism of the teaser; they are the questions any proper follow-up should ask.

For now, this is an early announcement feature, not a hands-on preview. We will return to the project when the team can show independently verifiable gameplay.

What comes next?

The developers say an updated press kit and pitch deck are available on request. For now, the project is still in development, and its design, platform details and release information may change. No launch date is confirmed in the materials provided to us.

Players can watch the official public CGI announcement teaser. We would welcome verified gameplay footage and further developer detail as work progresses.
