Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3, a new free-to-play team-combat game planned for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The publisher unveiled it on 28 October 2026 during its Gundam Games 40th anniversary livestream, confirming cross-play between the two platforms.
Mobile Suits and infantry share the battlefield
The announcement describes large-scale battles built around piloting Mobile Suits, but combat is not confined to the cockpit. Players can also fight on foot, plant bombs at enemy bases, call for support fire and capture strategic objectives. The emphasis remains on teams coordinating different roles rather than simply choosing the strongest machine.
Bandai Namco says the playable roster will draw from both the Universal Century timeline and alternative Gundam universes. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is among the series planned to be represented at launch, with further additions expected in subsequent updates. The publisher has not yet supplied a complete launch roster.
What is new in Battle Operation 3?
Among the announced changes are SP Skills, abilities intended to give individual Mobile Suits more distinct tactical roles. A new Battle Assist feature is also designed to make executing combos more approachable, alongside an updated interface and improved visuals. How these systems affect the balance of competitive matches remains to be seen.
The confirmation of simultaneous PlayStation 5 and Steam operation, with cross-play, is particularly significant for the series. It means players on the two announced platforms should be able to share a matchmaking population rather than wait for separate releases. The publisher has not announced an Xbox or Nintendo version.
When can you play it?
No release date was provided in the 28 October announcement. Bandai Namco has confirmed the game is in development for PS5 and Steam, not that it is already available to play. A free-to-play model has been announced, but the publisher has not detailed the full in-game purchase structure or UK availability.
For now, this is an announcement rather than a hands-on assessment. Coloured Static Press will distinguish confirmed gameplay features from promises until the game is available for independent testing.
