Power comes at a price in Ash of the Covenant, an upcoming dark-fantasy action roguelike from Divine Studios. Every blessing from a forgotten god promises a stronger build, but each comes with consequences. Its free Steam demo offers an early look at that risk-and-reward approach to combat.
Divine gifts, dangerous bargains
The central idea is straightforward but intriguing: as you battle through cursed halls, you accept powers from gods whose gifts may reshape your abilities and your fate. Elemental attacks, passive enhancements and combinations of blessings create opportunities to experiment, while the game’s premise suggests that a stronger character does not necessarily mean an easier journey.
Combat built around timing
Divine Studios describes responsive melee combos, dodging and repositioning, enemy stagger and demanding boss encounters. Runs are designed to be relatively short and replayable, with procedurally structured encounters and new powers to unlock between attempts. It’s a formula familiar to roguelike fans, with the divine bargain system providing its distinctive twist.
Try the demo before release
The full game currently has no confirmed release date on Steam, so this belongs in First Signal rather than our full-release Switchboard. A PC demo is available now, giving interested players a chance to test the combat and decide whether the gods are worth trusting.

Why we’re watching
Dark-fantasy roguelikes are hardly in short supply, but a meaningful cost attached to every upgrade could give Ash of the Covenant an identity of its own. We’re interested in whether the divine choices feel genuinely consequential during play, and how different builds alter the rhythm of combat.
