A cursed knight and the spirit responsible for her fate must learn to fight as one. Blade of Wiz, the upcoming action roguelite from Cube of Cube and publisher Anotherindie, builds its fast-paced combat around Sera and a mysterious spectral black cat. A free Steam demo is available, while the full release date remains unannounced.
Two souls, one fight
Sera has been exiled after being possessed by a spirit. Her unlikely companion, the cat at the centre of the curse, also provides a crucial edge in battle. Players combine the knight’s attacks with selected spirit-cat commands, building different approaches to enemy encounters rather than relying on a single weapon or fixed set of moves.
Combat designed for experimentation
The developer’s demo announcement describes more than 20 weapons, 12 command skills, 50 crests and six elemental systems with 108 blessings. Fire, wind, lightning and ice can interact with weapon choices and cat abilities to shape a run. Dodging, positioning and the rhythm of attacks remain central, but the breadth of potential combinations is a major part of the appeal.
A cursed city with choices at every turn
Each route through the imperial capital presents opportunities to gain abilities, find new attacks or recover health. The planned full game promises three chapters, side quests and a wider arsenal. The developers have continued patching the demo, including fixes for progression issues and improvements to accessibility and presentation.
Why we’re watching
There is no shortage of stylish action roguelites, so the question is whether Blade of Wiz can make the bond between its two leads feel genuinely important during play. Its promise of responsive combat and extensive build customisation makes the demo an appealing place to start. We’d particularly like to hear from the developers about how they keep player control at the heart of such a busy combat system.
