Fallout Day brings Deathclaws, companions and fresh wasteland plans

Bethesda’s 2026 celebration wasn’t about unveiling Fallout 5. Instead, it delivered practical additions to the games people are already playing, plus a new television spin-off.

Fallout Day has always occupied a peculiar place in the gaming calendar. It’s a celebration of the fictional catastrophe that defines Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic world, but for fans it has also become an opportunity to find out what the series is doing next. The announcements on 23 October 2026 centred on new content for existing games rather than a brand-new mainline RPG.

The headline was World Pets, the next major Fallout 76 update. Bethesda says it is arriving in December, with Steam’s official update feed naming 1 December as its launch date. The idea is wonderfully Fallout: finally take a domesticated Deathclaw on an adventure.

Fallout 76 pets are leaving the C.A.M.P.

Dogs, cats, radhogs and Deathclaws are moving beyond base decoration and becoming travelling companions. The pets can accompany their owners into the wasteland, receive commands and develop new abilities as they level up. Bethesda has described a refreshed Skyline Valley area as another part of the update.

On the game’s test servers, commands such as Follow, Stay, Protect and Attack have already been under scrutiny. Pet levelling and passive buffs are central to the experience. For long-time players, this is more than a novelty: a companion changes what solitary exploration feels like, even if it doesn’t remake the fundamentals of Fallout 76.

Fallout 4 is still receiving Creations

Bethesda also highlighted fresh Fallout 4 Creations, including Command Override and FEVer Dreams. These are additions to the game’s Creations ecosystem rather than an announcement of a new Fallout 4 expansion. For anyone who has returned to the Commonwealth repeatedly over the past decade, it’s another reminder that the older single-player game continues to attract new content.

Fallout Shelter and a new television experiment

The free-to-play management game Fallout Shelter will receive more Seasons, including content tied to an upcoming programme named Fallout Shelter: The Experiment. Bethesda also teased a baby Deathclaw pet for the vault.

The Prime Video series is scheduled to arrive on 13 January 2027. Unlike the scripted Fallout drama, this is described as a competition programme placing contestants inside a Fallout-inspired environment and challenging them for a cash prize. It is a different use of the franchise, and players should not confuse the two shows.

What didn’t happen

Fans waiting for a surprise Fallout 5 reveal or a confirmed remake announcement did not receive one as part of this roundup. It’s important not to turn the absence of an announcement into a promise that one is around the corner. What Bethesda has actually confirmed is a near-term content schedule for games already on the market.

CSP perspective: The Deathclaw will understandably grab the headlines, but World Pets could offer an appealing new rhythm to Fallout 76’s familiar exploration. It’s a grounded, player-facing update in a franchise that can attract considerable speculation. This time, the confirmed news is enough to discuss without inventing the next big reveal.
