Sony has put a date and a price on its next PlayStation headset. The new PlayStation Pulse wireless headset will arrive in the UK on 19 November 2026, priced at £89.99. Pre-orders open on 29 October at 10am UK time through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers.

Available in White and Midnight Black, this is the more affordable of two new Pulse headsets announced by Sony earlier this year. The higher-spec Pulse Edge is still planned for early 2027.

PlayStation Pulse: the UK launch details

Release date: Thursday, 19 November 2026
UK recommended price: £89.99
Pre-orders: Thursday, 29 October, from 10am local time for UK PlayStation Direct orders
Colours: White and Midnight Black

Sony has also confirmed the first wave of launch markets, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and a range of European countries. The recommended prices are $99.99 in the US, €99.99 in euro markets and ¥15,980 in Japan. Dates for other territories will follow.

Planar magnetic sound at a more accessible price

The most interesting part of the new Pulse is what Sony has retained. Like the more expensive Pulse family members, it uses custom planar magnetic drivers rather than the conventional dynamic drivers found in many gaming headsets. Sony says the design delivers clearer separation of sounds, better spatial accuracy and fuller bass.

That could matter in everything from a crowded action sequence to the quieter details of an atmospheric adventure. Sony also highlights its Tempest 3D AudioTech support on PS5, although the actual listening experience will need to be judged once the headset is in players’ hands.

PlayStation Link, Bluetooth and a built-in microphone

The headset supports PlayStation Link for low-latency, lossless wireless audio on compatible devices, with a USB-C PlayStation Link adapter included. Supported connections include PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac. Bluetooth support also means players can stay connected to a supported phone while using PlayStation Link for game audio.

Voice chat is handled by an integrated microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection, designed to filter background sounds. Rotating earcups let the headset fold flat for storage, and there are built-in volume controls. Sony’s product information also describes audio presets and adjustment options on supported devices.

How does it differ from Pulse Edge?

The £89.99 model is not the same as Sony’s upcoming Pulse Edge. The Edge is intended as the premium option, with active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone, a carrying case and upgraded planar magnetic driver assemblies. It also adds a dedicated game-audio/chat-balance control on the headset.

Those extras are not included with the standard Pulse. Sony has yet to confirm a final release date or price for Pulse Edge beyond its early-2027 launch window.

A promising option, but the test is still to come

At £89.99, the new Pulse offers a potentially interesting route into PlayStation’s planar magnetic audio range without stepping up to the Elite or the forthcoming Edge. The cross-device connectivity is another practical advantage, particularly for players moving between PS5 and PC.

What we cannot tell from an announcement is how it actually sounds, how comfortable it remains over long sessions or how well its microphone performs in a noisy room. Those are questions for a proper hands-on assessment, not a spec sheet.
