EXCELLENT
COLOURED STATIC PRESS / LONG-TERM HARDWARE REVIEW

Two wired gaming peripherals for budget money, and both still feel great after six months. Brilliant value in a distinctive package.

Thirty pounds isn’t normally enough to buy much confidence in a gaming-peripheral bundle. It might get you a cheap mouse or a small keypad of uncertain quality. RedThunder’s one-handed 35-key keypad and matching mouse combination offers both, and after more than six months with our own set, the experience has been unexpectedly positive.

Our owner reports that both pieces have remained hard-wearing, comfortable and enjoyable to use, with their RGB lighting still working properly and no issues encountered over that time. That’s the sort of result budget gaming equipment needs to achieve. Our long-term verdict is 86/100 for the complete bundle.

A one-handed keypad is a different way to play

Rather than replace your entire keyboard, this RedThunder keypad brings common gaming controls into a smaller, dedicated area. The 35-key layout centres on WASD, modifiers, number keys and function controls, while a large integrated palm-rest area offers support underneath. It makes most sense when gaming is the priority and you want your left hand to have a consistent set of keys without dedicating an entire full-sized keyboard to those inputs.

It won’t be everybody’s ideal layout. You still need a normal keyboard for writing or tasks requiring keys that aren’t included. And if your games rely on an unusual selection of keybinds, you’ll want to check that the available keys suit you before committing.

The advantage of months of use

The easy way to describe budget hardware is to list the features. The more useful way is to ask how it feels once the novelty wears off. Our reviewer has spent more than six months using this RedThunder package and still considers it fantastic. Both the keypad and mouse feel good in use, their build has stood up well, and there have been no issues to report.

That doesn’t establish laboratory-grade sensor accuracy or the lifetime of every switch, but it’s meaningful evidence of real-world value. You don’t need the cost of a premium brand to enjoy gear that continues to do its job.

The mouse isn’t just an afterthought

For a product sold as a bundle, it’s tempting to treat the mouse as a free accessory. But its shape, buttons and tracking are a substantial part of why the package makes sense. RedThunder advertises a mouse with sensitivity settings reaching 6,400 DPI and several configurable controls. The matching RGB gives the two peripherals a coherent look.

DPI is only a sensitivity figure, not a certificate of precision. We haven’t measured sensor deviation, lift-off distance or click latency, and won’t invent results for them. What we do know is that the owner has found the complete bundle good to use over a six-month period, with no reliability complaints.

The lighting has passed the real-world test

There’s a familiar risk with inexpensive illuminated accessories: lighting that looks impressive on day one but doesn’t age gracefully. That’s not what happened here. Six months on, the RedThunder lighting remains bright and functioning without problems, according to the owner. Alongside the comfortable feel, that durability is a major reason for the strong score.

Manufacturer documentation describes seven-colour backlighting and static/breathing modes on the keypad, with illumination on the mouse as well. These effects don’t transform gameplay, but they do make a comparatively inexpensive bundle look and feel more complete.

Macro keys and other extras

RedThunder’s G30 combo documentation lists two hardware macro combinations using Fn and the upper function keys, plus anti-ghosting and adjustable mouse polling options. Those are stated features rather than things we independently put through a comprehensive software test. Specific revisions may differ, so make sure the model pictured by a retailer matches the one you’re purchasing.

One other point worth flagging is switch terminology. Listings for RedThunder’s one-handed products aren’t always consistent about describing the keys as mechanical or membrane. We haven’t opened our unit to verify its mechanism, so this review deliberately avoids promising a particular switch construction. Judge the purchase by the design, features and real ownership experience rather than a loosely written listing title.

A compact gaming setup, with compromises

  • Not an everyday keyboard replacement: the 35-key design is intended for a focused selection of gaming inputs.
  • Wired connections: the keypad and mouse each add a cable to your desk.
  • Budget feature set: the listed software and customisation options are not evidence of premium-level performance.
  • Unclear switch descriptions: retailer listings can vary, so check the exact revision.

Value is the killer feature

The photographed product listing supplied with this review showed a price of £29.99 for the set. That’s a reference price from the owner’s screenshot, not a live guaranteed deal. At around that level, the most important argument is simple: for the cost of one inexpensive accessory, you’re getting a dedicated gaming keypad and a matching mouse that have both given more than six months of happy service.

Not every gamer will want a separate one-handed keypad. But if the arrangement appeals, this is an unusually low-cost way of discovering whether it works for you, and the long-term report gives far more confidence than a feature list alone.

The Coloured Static Press verdict

86/100 — Excellent. RedThunder’s keypad and mouse combo is one of those rare budget purchases that keeps justifying itself. Both parts feel good, both have proved hard-wearing, and the RGB is still doing its job after six months without a fault. It’s not a premium enthusiast setup, nor does it pretend to replace every keyboard. But for affordable gaming value, we think it’s fantastic.
