Indie Spotlight | Steam Next Fest 2026
Most RPGs whisk players into a separate arena when combat begins. Echoes of Aromia makes the world itself the battlefield. Its turn-based encounters unfold on an overworld grid, with destructible surroundings and a setting shaped by the aftermath of war.

A world rebuilding after the Clockwork Revolution
Studio Targa’s pixel-art RPG takes place twenty years after a devastating conflict, as a medieval fantasy society approaches industrialisation. Political intrigue, corruption and old myths all shape the journey. The developer describes a world with branching dialogue, companions and quests, rather than a simple sequence of battles.
Fight where you stand
The key tactical idea is that encounters use the same map as exploration. That makes the environment more than scenery, with the potential for terrain and destructible objects to influence combat. Alchemy adds another layer: players can grow, scavenge and craft useful items for the journey.
A long-lived world, now a game
The studio has described Aromia as the result of many years of tabletop storytelling, an intriguing origin for a game built around lore and player decisions. The team also contacted Coloured Static Press directly to introduce the project.
