Night City is back on screen. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix on 20 October 2026, bringing a new ten-episode standalone story from CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER. All episodes are available now.
The return is also reaching the game itself. CD PROJEKT RED has announced the free Edgerunners 2 Update, also known as Update 2.5, for Cyberpunk 2077.

A new crew in a familiar city
Rather than continuing the original anime’s storyline, the second instalment introduces new characters and perspectives on Night City. Its story explores revenge, redemption and the cost of survival in a world where reputation can matter as much as life itself.
Kai Ikarashi directs, with Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer. Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, writer and producer, alongside Masahiko Otsuka.
What’s coming to Cyberpunk 2077?
Update 2.5 is scheduled for 22 October on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Nintendo Switch 2 to follow. CD PROJEKT RED has now published official patch notes confirming a new Edgerunners-linked side quest, a themed gear set and radio station, plus a dual-wielding playstyle and supported cross-platform mods. These are announced features of the update, not hands-on impressions.
It’s an interesting moment for the franchise: a new anime can bring viewers into the game’s world, while returning players will soon have another reason to visit Night City. Whether the new series matches the original’s impact remains for audiences to decide.
