Indie Spotlight | Steam Next Fest 2026
Plenty of action games give players a sword or a gun. Leafborn gives them thousands of leaves. In this colourful 3D action roguelite, the hero is a living swarm that changes shape to fight the machines draining its world.

Welcome to the Canopy
The setting is a universe of floating islands known as the Canopy. Its enemy force, the Nulls, is a robotic invasion stripping life energy from the environment. That nature-versus-machinery conflict gives the game a clear identity, reinforced by the contrast between lush scenery and mechanical threats.
Change shape, change tactics
The leaf swarm can transform into different forms, and abilities behave differently depending on the current shape. The developer highlights a tornado that throws enemies aside and a saw-like form that slices through them. Combat emphasises movement, reading attack patterns and staying aggressive rather than relying on defensive play.
Another run, another route
Branching paths connect the floating islands, while upgrades earned between runs unlock new forms and possibilities. The combination of fast movement, form-switching and roguelite progression could make each run feel distinct if the systems fit together as intended.
Steam demo
The developer has announced a free demo for October 2026. Leafborn’s Steam page currently lists the full game as Coming soon. A separate demo listing is also available; check the store for its current download status.
