Indie Spotlight | Steam Next Fest 2026
Mancala has been played in different forms for centuries. Mancalero takes the familiar act of sowing stones around a board and transforms it into a roguelike where marbles trigger attacks, bonuses and increasingly extravagant combinations.

Six pits and a lot of possibilities
Solo developer ArchiusDev starts with the foundations of Mancala: distribute marbles across pits, plan where they will land and collect points. The twist is that scoring also damages your opponent, turning careful board management into a battle for survival.
Special marbles can change how a turn unfolds. Lightning chains effects, Fire burns opposing marbles and Glass increases scoring before shattering. The game invites players to assemble combinations that send multipliers climbing far beyond an ordinary board-game result.
Build a run, then break the rules
The official Steam page describes eight tables, each with two matches and a boss encounter. More than 15 marble types, over ten Blessings and shop-bought Embroidery Patches offer ways to alter a build. Some combinations unlock set bonuses, while curses and bosses introduce new constraints.
There is also an Endless Mode after the eighth table, alongside unlockable starting pouches and a compendium to track discoveries. These are advertised features of the planned full game, not claims about what we’ve personally played.
A solo developer’s reinvention
ArchiusDev is both developer and publisher. The Steam listing discloses AI-assisted localisation, and says controller support is included while Steam Deck verification remains a future goal.
Try the demo
A free Mancalero demo was released on 15 September 2026. The full game is scheduled for 4 November 2026. Visit Mancalero on Steam.
