CALL OF DUTY / CAMPAIGN / ACCESS GUIDE
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is due to launch worldwide on 23 October 2026, but players who digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased an eligible edition have been able to begin its campaign since Friday 16 October. Activision has confirmed that the early window covers the full campaign rather than a limited demo.
The split release gives story-focused players a chance to finish the campaign before the multiplayer launch rush. It also means anyone seeing a headline that says the game is already available should check what part of it that claim refers to.

Who qualifies for campaign early access?
According to Activision, digital purchases of either the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition are eligible on supported platforms. The campaign early-access offer covers Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.
The important word is digital. Activision’s published early-access terms refer specifically to digital pre-orders or pre-purchases, not to every physical copy or any assumption that an ordinary subscription automatically unlocks early campaign play.
What about DMZ and the full launch?
The publisher has staggered the schedule. The campaign window began on 16 October; DMZ early access is scheduled for 20 October for eligible buyers; and the main 23 October launch brings the complete game release.
Modern Warfare 4’s campaign moves the series into a conflict centred on the Korean Peninsula, with a young South Korean squad caught in the fighting and Captain Price pursuing a separate mission. Activision says completion rewards earned during the campaign can be used in multiplayer and DMZ at full launch.
Should you buy it for the early campaign?
A week of early access may be useful if you already intended to purchase the game and prefer to play story missions without later spoilers. It should not, by itself, settle a buying decision. CSP has not tested the campaign, and we are not presenting publisher claims about its quality as an independent verdict.
If you have already made an eligible digital purchase, check the game listing and platform downloads for access. If you’re considering a purchase, read the exact terms for the relevant edition and region before paying.
