GAMING NEWS / FREE UPDATE / XBOX & PC
Running a zombie outbreak checkpoint never sounded like a relaxing job. Quarantine Zone: The Last Check now has an especially chaotic new assignment: Miami. Its Miami Zero expansion arrived on 15 October 2026 as a free update for existing owners, shifting the action backwards to the early days of the infection.
Developer Brigada Games has moved the action from the familiar outpost to the city where the outbreak began. The result is a prequel campaign that retains the basic tension of identifying infected arrivals, but adds new faces and complications to the inspection process.
A different sort of problem at the checkpoint
The developer says Miami Zero introduces more than 30 unique survivors, each with their own lines, appearances and behaviour. The tools used to screen them now have more to uncover, including unfamiliar symptoms and suspicious items that have nothing to do with the virus.
Contraband checks are a particularly interesting addition. People may try to hide drugs under clothing, in their hands or even inside their bodies, forcing players to look beyond the signs of infection. The additional variables could make familiar inspection routines less predictable, although it remains to be seen how often genuinely difficult choices arise.
New research, new threats and a way out
A new research centre allows experimentation on infected subjects, with the possibility of dangerous results. There is also a longer objective beyond keeping the checkpoint running: repairing a boat in the hope of escaping the city. The campaign adds quests, locations and a storyline that explore the outbreak’s origins.
The expansion also introduces a dynamic weather system. Sunshine can give way to tropical rain or dust storms, while new streets, a pier and other environments broaden the setting. It is a notable change for a game whose core appeal depends on carefully watching people and noticing what is out of place.
How much does Miami Zero cost?
Nothing extra if you own the base game. Brigada Games describes Miami Zero as a free content update rather than a separately priced standalone game. The developer says it is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including through Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
For returning players, the attraction is clear: more reasons to question every survivor and another story to uncover. For newcomers, it is worth remembering that the base game is still required outside subscription access. CSP has not played the update, so this is an announcement-based overview, not a review of its quality.
