Indie Spotlight | Steam Next Fest 2026
Before endless live-service updates and enormous open worlds, PC platformers often arrived in shareware episodes, tempting players with a substantial slice of an adventure. Arcane Dash – A Pixel Adventure is deliberately returning to that era.
Developed and published by Java Sorcery, the game follows Ilenor the Brave, whose four treasured possessions have been stolen. One of them is his cat, Shadowtongue. Recovering them means running, jumping and shooting through pixel-art levels filled with enemies and traps.

Four episodes of retro platforming
Steam lists 36 side-scrolling levels spread across four episodes. The presentation takes inspiration from early-1990s shareware platformers, with parallax backgrounds, synthesised sound effects, MIDI-style music and an optional CRT filter. Dynamic weather introduces additional visual variation.
Beyond the campaign, the developer advertises save slots, Steam leaderboards and an Ascension mode intended for players seeking a harder challenge after completion.
A genuinely substantial demo
The free Steam demo provides access to Episode 1, Glimmelion, described as a quarter of the planned game, without time limits or restrictions. That’s an especially fitting nod to the shareware distribution model that inspired it. Find Arcane Dash and its demo on Steam.
Development transparency
The Steam listing identifies Java Sorcery as developer and publisher. Its AI-content disclosure says generative tools assisted with much of the original music, cutscene art, translations and logo, with developer review and editing. The disclosure separately states that levels, character sprites, sound effects and other marketing materials were made without AI involvement. That distinction matters when describing the work behind the game.
Steam currently shows the release as Coming soon. We won’t state a precise date without checking an official, dated announcement.
Editor’s note: This is a discovery feature, not a hands-on review. The Steam listing also carries a photosensitivity warning concerning lightning flashes and flickering effects.
